The Only Way is #RUB
by Danielle Pankhania
Rub Smokehouse & Bar was the first restaurant I visited whilst looking for a place to live in Nottingham in my ‘Pursuit of Hoppiness’. I ‘Risk(ed) It For A Brisket’ and I applied for a job there because, lets face it, when I visited it was like I was at an all day ‘(Boston G&T) Party’ - and this was on a Wednesday afternoon I might add. You instantly feel like you’re in an authentic ‘(Born In The) USA diner, ‘Stars & Stripes’ and all! The food was immense, the staff were friendly and I could really see myself working there and having fun. I’ve never been in a ‘(Coney Island) Cooler’ place!
I’d never done any waitress work before and I was being thrown in at the deep end on a ‘Saturday Night (Dog)’. Needless to say, I had the time of my freakin’ life, even though constantly being on your feet tests your ability to ‘Beat The Heat’! I never anticipated that I would be accepted into such a loving and caring environment. When you’ve recently moved away from your family and your social normalities, the last thing you want is the added stress of working for people who are a bit ‘(Pilgrim) Sour’. When Tyler - my ever so lovely supervisor - now assistant manager - told me that I’d succeeded in getting the job, I was like ‘Wham Bam Thank You Mam!’
The thing that made me so happy about starting my adventure at Rub is that I never felt like an outsider. Everybody who I’ve met or come into contact with are as sweet as ‘Mama’s Pecan Pie’. I’m so happy that they took me under their ‘(Red Bull) wing’. I don’t want to sound like a ‘Corn Dog’ but I know that I will make so many memories whilst I am part of the #Rub team. Even though I’m a poor student, I feel like a ‘(Rub Dog) Millionaire’ for being able to have this opportunity!! Come and join the #Rub Fun!!
